A developer's guide to EDI

I first encountered EDI in 2020. At that point I’d been writing software professionally for 20 years. I was accustomed to complaining about XML. You can imagine my reaction to EDI.

I figured it out eventually, but it was more painful than it needed to be. I’m struck by the fact that there are still few good resources to help newcomers to the field get situated. Most of the results for searching “understanding EDI as a developer” are corporate top-of-the-funnel landing pages designed for conversion, not education.

I’ve taken a crack at filling that gap. I just released a guide about EDI, aimed at developers and technical people, that treats readers like they’re more than a wallet.

It’s free (and doesn’t require sign-up), it’s interactive, it’s wired into a comprehensive X12 Reference, and it’s got an “Ask a question” widget on every page.
