I fell in love with programming when my dad brought home an IBM clone in the late 80s. I would take out books about BASIC from the library and painstakingly type out the programs they contained. The result invariably failed to live up to what the covers advertised, but I was hooked.
When I graduated from computer science years later it was at the height of the dot-com crash. The jobs that had been promised to us had vanished, a situation familiar to many young CS grads today. With no prospects for employment, I started a company, and I’ve been an entrepreneur ever since.
By 2020, the idealistic promise of the early Internet had been corrupted by billionaire techbros. I was disillusioned. So when I got the opportunity to start working in logistics, it was immediately appealing. Here was an industry that was doing work that truly mattered.
The company I joined relied on tech I’d never heard of: EDI. Their homegrown solution was unmaintainable, so I went looking for a platform. I found a lot of bad options, but one company stood out, with great design and a clean API. We moved everything over.
Then they “pivoted”. Our costs went from $1k/month to $5k/month. It’s a story as old as Silicon Valley and it always seems to involve venture capitalists.
I went looking for an alternative: something developer-focused with fair pricing. I couldn’t find it. Everything was either outdated, outrageously expensive, or both.
Tediware is the platform I wanted to find and couldn’t. It’s my answer to two questions: can I design a product that elegantly solves the hard parts of EDI? And can I design an EDI company that is independently sustainable from day one, so that I only ever make the decisions that are right for my customers?
I’d love to show you how I’ve answered those questions. Drop me a line at adrian@tediware.com.
