Warehouse Stock Transfer Shipment Advice

Warehouse Stock Transfer Shipment Advice (943) is sent by a warehouse or distribution center to notify trading partners of inventory being transferred between facilities. The sender is typically a warehouse operator or logistics provider, and the receiver is the receiving warehouse or inventory management system. This transaction set is usually sent in response to a warehouse stock transfer request or as notification that goods have been physically shipped. Key segments include the W06 (Warehouse Shipment Identification), which establishes the shipment reference and warehouse locations; the N1 (Name) segment, which identifies the parties involved such as the shipping warehouse, receiving warehouse, and shipper; and the W04 (Item Detail Total), which itemizes each product being transferred with its quantity and identifying information.

Consider a practical scenario where ABC Manufacturing’s distribution center in Chicago needs to transfer excess inventory to its Atlanta facility. The Chicago warehouse creates a 943 transaction using the W06 segment to assign a shipment ID and specify both origin and destination warehouse codes. The N1 loop identifies Chicago DC as the shipper, Atlanta DC as the receiver, and the carrier handling the transfer. For each product line, the W04 segment provides the item number, description, and quantity being transferred. Once the shipment is handed off to the carrier, the Chicago warehouse transmits the 943 to Atlanta and to ABC Manufacturing’s inventory system, allowing Atlanta to expect the incoming goods and ABC to track stock movements across its network.
