990 Response to a Load Tender

A Response to a Load Tender (990) is sent by a carrier or transportation provider to confirm, reject, or conditionally accept a load tender previously received from a shipper, broker, or freight forwarder. The 990 transaction set uses the B1 (Beginning Segment for Booking or Pick-up/Delivery) segment to communicate the response status and tender details, the G62 (Date/Time) segment to specify pickup, delivery, or other critical dates, and the L9 (Charge Detail) segment to communicate any rate adjustments or charges associated with the response. Optional V9 (Event Detail) segments allow the carrier to provide additional event or status information, while K1 (Remarks) segments enable free-form notes to clarify the response rationale.

For example, when ABC Freight Forwarding sends a load tender to XYZ Trucking Company requesting pickup of palletized goods from Chicago to Atlanta, XYZ responds with a 990 transaction set confirming availability. The 990 includes the B1 segment indicating acceptance, G62 segments specifying the confirmed pickup date and delivery window, and an L9 segment detailing any fuel surcharges or accessorial fees. If the shipment includes a stop in Memphis, XYZ includes an S5 loop with stop-off details, associated references via N9, and the expected stop date in G62. This structured response allows ABC Freight Forwarding to confirm load assignment and plan accordingly.
