Logistics Reassignment

A logistics service provider, freight forwarder, or carrier sends a Logistics Reassignment (536) transaction to a shipper, consignee, or their logistics partner to communicate changes in the handling, routing, or assignment of materials and shipments. Typically initiated in response to operational changes, supply chain disruptions, or customer requests, the 536 uses the BR (Beginning Segment for Material Management) segment to establish the reassignment context, the HL (Hierarchical Level) segments to organize items or shipments being reassigned, and LIN (Item Identification) segments to identify specific products or shipment records affected by the change.

For example, when Global Logistics Inc. needs to redirect a partial shipment of automotive parts originally bound for Detroit Manufacturing’s warehouse in Michigan to an alternate facility in Ohio due to a production schedule change, Global sends a 536 transaction. The message contains multiple HL loops, each representing a different item or shipment component, with QTY (Quantity) segments specifying how many units are being reassigned and G62 (Date/Time) segments indicating when the reassignment takes effect. Detroit Manufacturing receives the transaction and uses the reassignment details—including new destination information from the N1 (Name) and N4 (Geographic Location) segments—to update their receiving and inventory systems accordingly.
