Shipping Schedule (862) is used by suppliers and manufacturers to communicate planned shipment quantities and delivery dates to their customers or receiving partners. Typically sent in response to purchase orders or demand forecasts, this transaction enables coordination of production and logistics planning. The BSS segment establishes the shipping schedule context, the LIN loop details specific items with their quantities and timing requirements, and the FST segment within the LIN loop specifies forecast schedules with associated dates and destination quantities through DTM and SDQ segments.

Consider Automotive Supplier Corp. sending a 862 to Major Auto Manufacturer in response to a purchase order. The transmission communicates that 500 units of part number A-12345 will ship on June 15th and another 300 units on June 22nd, with packaging specifications included. The FST loop breaks down when those units are forecast to arrive at different receiving locations, while the SHP loop would optionally document actual shipment details including carrier routing and equipment used. This allows Major Auto Manufacturer to align its production schedule and warehouse receiving operations with the incoming inventory.
