Motor Carrier Delivery Trailer Manifest

Motor carriers use the 212 transaction set to report delivery status and manifest contents to their customers and logistics partners. Sent by a motor carrier in response to a shipment pickup or as a scheduled delivery update, this document provides a detailed account of what cargo is contained in each trailer and its current status. The ATA (Beginning Segment for Motor Carrier Delivery Trailer Manifest) establishes the overall manifest context, while the AT7 (Shipment Status Details) segments communicate the current condition and location of shipments, and the MAN (Marks and Numbers) segments identify specific packages and their markings within the trailer. The optional N1 (Name) loops allow carriers to identify all relevant parties—shippers, consignees, and intermediaries—associated with the delivery.

Consider XYZ Logistics, a regional carrier, delivering mixed freight from a distributor to multiple retail locations. XYZ sends a 212 manifest to the distributor after loading their trailer at the warehouse. The manifest includes the AT7 segment confirming “in transit” status, MAN segments listing each pallet’s barcode and SKU markings, and N1 loops identifying the distributor as shipper and each retail store as a consignee. Within the LX loop, XYZ details individual shipment records with SDQ (Destination Quantity) segments breaking down how many units go to each retail location. This allows the distributor to track exactly what’s on the truck and confirm delivery accountability before goods reach their final destinations.
