Vehicle Shipping Order
This transaction set is used to communicate orders for vehicle shipping. A shipper or freight forwarder typically sends the Vehicle Shipping Order (120) to a motor carrier or logistics provider to request transportation of one or more vehicles. The BVP segment provides the overall shipment details and initiates the order, while the G62 loop captures important dates such as pickup and delivery windows. The VC loop is repeated for each vehicle being shipped, with the VC segment containing vehicle-specific control information and the Motor Vehicle Control details needed for proper identification and routing.
For example, AutoDealers Inc., a multi-location auto retailer, sends a Vehicle Shipping Order to FastFreight Motor Carrier to transport five vehicles from their central auction facility in Indianapolis to regional distribution centers. The order specifies each vehicle’s make, model, and VIN through separate VC segments, includes the required pickup date in the G62 loop, and uses N1/N3/N4 segments to communicate the origin facility address and destination delivery points. FastFreight receives the transmission, validates the vehicle details, and confirms the shipment can meet the requested delivery dates before assigning equipment and drivers to the job.
