Motor Carrier Pickup Manifest

Motor carriers send this transaction set to document and consolidate shipments designated for pickup. Shippers and freight forwarders typically receive it to acknowledge and track multiple packages organized under a single manifest. The transaction is often sent in response to pickup requests or as a proactive communication before collection. The B2A (Set Purpose) segment indicates the manifest’s intent, the SMD (Consolidated Shipment Manifest Data) segment groups individual shipments together, and the CD3 (Carton/Package Detail) segment identifies each physical carton or package within the manifest, with supporting details provided through L11 (Business Instructions and Reference Number) and L5 (Description, Marks and Numbers) segments.

For example, a regional parcel carrier such as FastFreight Logistics prepares a morning pickup run and sends a 215 manifest to ShipCo Distribution Center listing five consolidated shipments scheduled for collection at 10 AM. Each shipment entry includes its tracking number via the L11 segment, destination information in the N1 loop (containing the consignee’s name and address), and individual package counts and weights through the CD3 loop. ShipCo’s receiving staff can verify that all expected parcels are listed and ready, while FastFreight uses the same manifest as proof of pickup and for internal route optimization.
