This transaction set communicates instructions for positioning vehicles within a storage or distribution facility. Typically, a fleet management company or vehicle logistics provider sends the 127 to a warehouse or vehicle storage facility to direct the baying (placement) and organization of vehicles. The transaction set is usually initiated in response to incoming vehicle inventory or operational scheduling needs. Key segments include the BVB (Beginning Segment for Vehicle Baying Order), which establishes the order’s purpose and identifier; the G62 (Date/Time), which specifies when the baying action should occur or when the order was issued; and the VC (Motor Vehicle Control) segment, which details specific vehicle information and control requirements for placement.

When AutoFleet Logistics receives a shipment of rental vehicles at its distribution center, it generates a 127 transaction set directing the facility operator, StoragePro Warehouse, on how to bay the vehicles. The message specifies the order number, required baying date, and uses the VC segments to identify each vehicle by VIN and specify its designated bay location. StoragePro’s warehouse management system receives this 127 and uses it to optimize floor space allocation, ensuring vehicles are positioned for efficient loading onto transport trucks or preparation for customer delivery. The SFC segments may indicate any special storage characteristics required, such as climate control or security protocols for high-value vehicles.
