EdiFabric vs Tediware

Last updated Refreshed quarterly 9 cited sources

With Tediware, you build your EDI integration with AI. In contrast, EdiFabric translates and validates EDI documents inside your own application.

EdiFabric is not a full1 end-to-end EDI solution, with no AS2 or SFTP1 components, dashboard or UI. EdiFabric is a library you call2 from your own application, so partner connections, spec work, mapping, flows and document tracing are your team's responsibility.

In contrast, Tediware is a complete EDI platform, with trading partner configuration, AS2, SFTP and VAN connections, AI-assisted mappings and complete observability that traces each document through translation, mapping, validation and delivery.

EdiFabric customers on the Developer and Enterprise plans can add private partner-specific "models"3 (roughly equivalent to Tediware's implementation guides), and they write those models by hand.

When is Tediware the better choice than EdiFabric?

Tediware is the better choice for developers, technical teams and hands-on business operators who want a comprehensive solution for any industry except healthcare. Tediware is built for logistics, retail, manufacturing and food and beverage. Tediware supports all X12 transaction sets and all X12 releases from 3060 onward, on every plan.

Tediware makes an official MCP server available on every plan, including the free Developer plan. Your coding agent can read your partner configuration, transactions and traces, and send or resend documents while it builds the integration in your own codebase. Tediware publishes coding agent instructions for agents that integrate with it.

EdiFabric's product list4 names a .NET library, a native library and a REST API, with no official MCP server.

With Tediware, your code sends one JSON shape per transaction set to every trading partner. Each partner's differences live in its mapping, which the AI generates as JSONata and validates before acceptance. With EdiFabric, a developer modifies C# templates5 to fit each partner-specific format.

To onboard a new partner on Tediware, you upload the partner's PDF spec and receive a validated implementation in 1 to 2 business days. EdiFabric's EdiNation service7 offers SEF file migration and hand-built OpenEDI specs.

Tediware's application interface is JSON in both directions, so your code never handles raw X12. EdiFabric has no partner transport2, so an EdiFabric customer still receives and sends raw X12 files and calls the library to convert them.

When a Tediware document fails, your code or your agent calls the traces endpoint with one trace ID. The response assembles the transactions, results, feed entries, logs and artifacts for that document. EdiFabric's Cloud operations3 return parse and validation results per call.

Tediware's free Developer plan carries production traffic, with 800 transactions a month and unlimited trading partners. The Growth plan costs $100 a month for 6,000 transactions, then $0.0150 each. Tediware's monthly plans require no contract.

When is EdiFabric the better choice?

EdiFabric is the better choice for a team that only needs to translate EDI files inside its own .NET application and will build and run everything else itself. That team takes on partner connections, spec work, mapping, flows and monitoring, because EdiFabric has no communication components1 and no dashboard. For translation, EdiFabric's .NET library5 specifies every message type as a C# class annotated with EDI attributes.

Healthcare providers and payers are better served by EdiFabric. EdiFabric supports HIPAA as a standard9, with pages for X12 837P, X12 837D, X12 837I, X12 835, X12 834, X12 270/271, X12 276/277 and X12 278. Tediware's service terms allow protected health information only under a signed business associate agreement.

Companies whose partners are mostly outside North America are better served by EdiFabric. EdiFabric's .NET library and Cloud API cover EDIFACT and EANCOM6, along with X12, HIPAA, IAIABC, NCPDP, HL7, VDA, EDIGAS and IATA. EdiFabric states that it supports ten standards in full8, covering every version, transaction and dialect. Tediware's supported standard is X12, across all transaction sets and releases from 3060 onward.

How do I try Tediware?

You can create a Tediware account on the free Developer plan without a credit card. The Developer plan includes 800 transactions a month, unlimited trading partners and all AI features, and it is free for production traffic.

Tediware's product docs cover implementations, mappings and the JSON format. Tediware's API reference covers the platform endpoints, including the MCP server and traces.

Frequently asked questions

Is EdiFabric a full end-to-end EDI solution?

No. EdiFabric's help centre says its toolkit is not a full1 end-to-end EDI solution and has no AS2 or SFTP components, dashboard or UI.

Is Tediware an alternative to EdiFabric?

Yes, if you want a full end-to-end EDI solution rather than a translation library. Tediware handles partner connections, specs, mappings and tracing, and you build your integration with AI on the free Developer plan.

Can my coding agent work with EdiFabric?

Not through an official MCP server. An MCP server lets a coding agent connect to a platform directly, reading your partner setup, transactions and errors and acting on them while it builds your integration. EdiFabric's product list4 names a .NET library, a native library and a REST API, with no official MCP server. Tediware's MCP server is available on every plan, including the free Developer plan.

Can I run production traffic on a free plan?

EdiFabric's Community plan6 is free with 250 operations a day and bans production use. Tediware's Developer plan is free for production traffic, with 800 transactions a month and no credit card required.

Which one supports HIPAA and EDIFACT?

EdiFabric supports HIPAA, EDIFACT and EANCOM6 in its .NET library and Cloud API. Tediware supports all X12 transaction sets and all X12 releases from 3060 onward.

Can EdiFabric handle partner-specific specs?

Yes: EdiFabric Developer and Enterprise customers can write private partner-specific models3 and validate messages against them. Tediware converts an uploaded partner PDF spec into a validated implementation in 1 to 2 business days.
